Under the bacterial types of STDs you have chancroid, Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.

-Chancroid is sometimes called soft chancre because of its similarity to the chancres that are a symptom of syphilis but although similar they are different. Mostly the STD known as chancroid which causes painful sores on the genitalia occurs in developing countries more than western countries but there has recently been an increase of cases reported among crack cocaine users and prostitutes.

-Chlamydia infection is one of the most common STDs in the world with an estimate of more than one million individuals in the U.S. being infected. One of the leading causes of blindness in the world Chlamydia can infect your eyes or the eyes of an unborn child in an affected mother.

-Gonorrhea is the second most common STD in the United States. If it is left untreated it can affect joints and other internal body parts such as heart valves. It is a common myth that gonorrhea can be caught from a toilet seat which is not true.

-Syphilis appears as a skin lesion (chancre) usually painless where the person is infected. The lesion may stay on the body for a month or more then disappear. If syphilis isn’t treated it can cause damage to the heart, brain, eyes or bones. Syphilis in some cases can cause death.

Viral types of STDs include Herpes, Certain types of Hepatitis, HIV/Aids, and HPV (Human Papilloma Virus).

-Herpes appears as a breakout of sores that can cause infection with sexual partners.

-Hepatitis Types A, B, D, E are commonly known to be caused by sexual contact

-HIV/AIDS spread by venereal fluids

-HPV is spread through mucous fluids and can cause genital warts and certain kinds of cancer
