-Hepatitis C is a disease affecting a person’s liver that can cause cirrhosis or scarring of the liver. This scarring of the liver could cause liver failure or liver cancer if not treated. This in the end could require a person to have a liver transplant which many times there is a reoccurrence of the cirrhosis.

- The hepatitis C virus is spread from blood to blood contact such as sharing drug injection paraphernalia (needles), blood transfusions, dirty tattoo or piercing equipment, and in some cases sexual activity.

- It is estimated that up to 300 million people worldwide are infected with Hepatitis C
Confidential STD testing consists of a blood test. This blood test looks for antibodies to the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) as an indicator of acute Hepatitis C.

Growing National Concern

A growing concern and risk going through the United States and the world now is the rise in Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) in teens. The incidencence of premarital sex is growing and becoming one of the leading factors in this rise of STDs. Our children are becoming sexually active at a much younger age. Studies have show that every 11 seconds a teen is having sex for the first time. Couple that with misuse and untrained condom use and we can see why there is a rise in not only STDs but pregnancies too.

Just Say No

Sexual relations among teenagers is a growing problem and one of National concern and signifigance. Besides the mental anguish such as fear of pregnancy or regret caused by sexual relations there are the physical problems of contacting STDs. Many times our younger Americans get caught up in the moment, whether it be through lust or intoxication and forget the consequences of their actions. Although many claim that abstinence is impossible it is the only true way of avoiding STDs. Please parents educate your children on the risk of getting an STD and how to avoid it.

It is a common misconception to believe that oral sex is “safe sex.” The fact is that you can both contract and pass along an STD through oral sex and whether that is vaginal, penile, or anal oral sex. However, it is important to note that oral sex is significantly lower-risk that vaginal or anal intercourse. To lower your risk even more, we always recommend using a condom or dental dam when performing oral sex on a partner you deem is at risk for STDs. It’s always better to be safe when it comes to your sexual health.

Someone wrote in with a question that went something like “When I urinate there is a little blood and also a burning sensation. Could this be a bladder infection or an STD?” Well first off this could be either a bladder infection, symptoms of STDs, or something else. Secondly, why are you not getting tested for an STD or whatever. I mean if someone knew the answer to the question this person is still going to need to get tested.

If you are in this situation I recommend that you read our page on Symptoms of STDs and either do a home test for STDs or get professional medical help immediately. Leave the internet for things not related to your health and well being.

Was reading an article on basqueresearch.com about a new portable device that IK4 Technological Alliance has developed that can detect Chlamydia, HPV, and other STDs in less than half an hour. This device will be put on the market in India in 2012 where a large amount of the population is thought to be affected somewhere in the range of 80 million.

This device is not only quick but inexpensive and will be able to detect STDs in much less time than the conventional ways which require laboratory testing. At most interest will be the ability to detect Chlamydia , the most reported STD in the world. A quick detection of the diseases will help medical professionals treat the patient before it causes more damage. The low cost will make it affordable to people who possibly could not afford STD testing before
