Here are some facts about STDs from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention

-In 2008, 1,210,523 chlamydial infections were reported to CDC from 50 states and the District of Columbia.

-In 2008, chlamydia rates per 100,000 population by state ranged from 160.3 cases in New Hampshire to 728.1 cases in Mississippi.

-In 2008, the overall rate of reported chlamydial infection among women in all 50 states and the District of Columbia (583.8 cases per 100,000 females) was almost three times higher than the rate among men

-Among women, the highest age-specific rates of reported chlamydia in 2008 were among those 15 to 19 years of age

-In 2008, chlamydia rates increased for all racial and ethnic groups (Figure 6, Table 11B). The rate of chlamydia among blacks was over eight times higher than that of whites

-The majority of chlamydia cases reported in 2008 were from venues outside of STD clinics
